FILE PREPARATION & DESIGN

What file format should I supply my files in?

We require both your text file and cover file to be supplied as ‘press-ready PDF files’ to ensure the highest print quality. If you’re having trouble converting your files into this format, please don’t hesitate to contact us - we’re always happy to help.

What is bleed?

In printing, ‘bleed’ refers to the area of artwork that extends beyond the final trim size of your printed piece. This extra space, (typically 3mm on each side) ensures that when the design is trimmed to it’s final size, there are no unwanted white edges. Bleed is essential for achieving a clean, professional finish, especially when your design includes background colours, images, or elements that reach the edge of the page.

If you’re supplying your own artwork, make sure to include bleed in your file setup. Not sure how? Our team is happy to guide you through the process.

What are Pantone colours?

Pantone colours refer to the Pantone Matching System (PMS), a standardised colour matching system used in the printing industry. Each Pantone colour is identified by a unique name or number, ensuring consistent colour reproduction across different printers, materials, and print runs.

Using Pantone colours helps guarantee that your brand colours or design elements appear exactly as intended, no matter where or how they’re printed.

Do you offer a design service?

Yes, we do. Whether you have existing artwork or don’t yet have a design, our team can provide professional design services to help bring your ideas to life. Just share your vision, and we’ll take care of the rest. Ensuring your materials are on-brand, visually engaging, and print-ready.

What is artwork in printing?

In printing, artwork refers to the digital design files that contain all the visual elements of your print project, such as text, images, logos, and layout. These files are used to produce the final printed product and must be set up correctly to ensure high-quality results.

Artwork should be supplied in a press-ready format, typically as a PDF with the correct dimensions, resolution, bleed, and colour settings. If you’re unsure how to prepare your artwork, please contact our team who will be able to assist or provide design services to get everything print-ready.

What is the difference between RGB and CMYK?

RGB stands for Red, Green and Blue and CMYK stands for Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Key (Black). RGB is used for digital displays like computer monitors, smartphones and TV’s whereas CMYK is used for printing, everything from brochures and business cards to posters and packaging
